Blowing in from
the windy city of Chicago are Tafoya's Lost Boyzz, whose
debut effort 'Life' conjures up memories of classic
blues rockers such as Zeppelin, Santana and Peter
Green's Fleetwood Mac with shades of modern hard rock
ala Audioslave mixed in to boot.
Although sonically it could be better due to this being
a pre mastered version, this DOES rock, and ex The Boyzz
guitarist Mike Tafoya rips it up throughout, as this
power trio romps through all 10 tracks with pure joy.
One thing is certain - these boyzz obviously love what
they're doing as their exuberance shines throughout the
CD. Trends may come and trends may go, but Tafoya plays
like it's the 70's again. In fact, close your eyes and
you'd be hard pressed to believe it's not 1975, so
authentic the style is. In that distant long ago age
when Page, Nugent and Blackmore ruled the roost, the
guitarist would've been a rock God.
In
this day and age of pre-manufactured no talent divas and
watered down wimpy so called rock, it's refreshing to
hear a band who shoots from the hip and aren't ashamed
to say loud and proud "We Rock!" If you have a craving
for down to earth rockers, these Lost Boyzz will satisfy
that hunger and then some. Filled with well realized
songs and strong musicianship, this will be a fine
addition to any classic hard rocker's collection.

"Life" is an amazing album, but what more can you expect
from a musical genius like Mike Tafoya. This is my very
favorite live band, because the melodies seep into the
soul. In my opinion the track "Outside my window" is
awesome. Mike gave me my album personally........and it
is constantly playing in my car. Buy yours today!!!!!!!
Can't wait to see them live soon!!

I can't
believe after all these years, (since 7th grade) and
learning Gloria and Satisfaction in a basement with Mike
That he is a Master on the guitar and it shows on every
song on his Life CD. The Lost Boyzz are a Great band!
Mike is overflowing with melodic guitar riffs very
pleasing to the ears. Erik and Chris are a fantastic
blend with Mike. The more I hear this CD The more it
grows on me. Great Job Guys, I'm very impressed with
this great sounding CD Life!

Wanted to share a few
comments on the new album titled Tafoya's Lost Boyzz...LIFE.
This CD is both versatile, melodic, harmonic, radical,
and a new genre of music for today and tomorrow. The
music demonstrates a classically trained artist that
meets the world of rock. This CD is sure to please ALL
ages. The professional mix and big sound blends years
of experience with lyrics of deep emotion about the LIFE
of Tafoya.
I would recommend that you listen to the music the first
time through and then really listen to the words the
second, third, fourth.....
This one will stay in your player for a long time!
Great success to you Mike and I am looking forward to
seeing your show.
Keep on rockin',

Mike, It was
good to see you at blues fest after all these years. You
and Dave must have been busy as B'zz making this cd
because it's a real winner. I was impressed with the
excellent harmonies on "Crystal Morning". It's refreshing
to hear a great power trio again. Wisdom and experience
have kept you on top of the game. I hope CBS is
listening.

Remember
what it was like back in the days of vinyl when you would
run home from the record store with a new album in hand and
lock yourself in your room and listen to it over and over
and over again until you knew every word and every lick and
then listen to it some more?
That’s
how excited I was when I opened my mailbox last week and
found my Lost Boyzz CD had arrived. And if it’s possible
to produce an instant classic, that’s what Mike Tafoya and
The Lost Boyzz have done. You can play their LIFE CD over
and over and over and over again and like it more each time
you hear it. They don’t sound like anybody else but their
inspiration is clearly pulled from the soul of Classic
Rock. There are echoes of Led Zeppelin, Santana, The Doors,
early Styx, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Hendrix, Deep Purple, hard
core blues and, of course, The Boyzz, woven into the
music. The result is a wall of sound that’s blistering,
loud, raunchy and raw, while at the same time, uplifting,
catchy and even spiritual. The music defies genre, other
than to say it ROCKS!
As far as
I am concerned, it isn’t Rock without a screaming
guitar.. And the guitar work here is incredible. Each song
serves as a launch pad for an amazing solo. Listening back
to The Boyzz after all these years, I find some of Mike’s
guitar work lost in the mix. There’s too much going on for
it to really stand out. He’s finally found a platform to
showcase his work, which is not to dismiss the rest of the
band. They work together as the ultimate power trio,
complete with layers of vocal harmonies that seem so
effortless they will likely go under-appreciated. Chris and
Erik add the rock solid foundation, and then the guitar
screams, rants, sears or soars and wherever it goes, you go
with it. You’re instantly lost in the music. And as good
as the CD is, you just know it would be even better to hear
the band play it live and the bigger the venue the
better. The title track in particular needs plenty of room
to expand.
But the
best thing about LIFE is it makes me smile. The music
manages to bring back memories even though I’m hearing it
for the first time. And it doesn’t hurt that Mike is an
incredibly nice guy who sent me four CDs spanning thirty
years of his musical career for a ridiculously low
price. He personally took the order, followed up with
emails and said thank you. In an age where you need a Best
Buys Rewards Card just to have the chance to pay $225 to see
the big reunion tour of the summer, that’s very refreshing.
Buy the
CD. You will remember why you like music.

After 20years playing guitar I can really appriciate a great
guitar player. I saw Mike years ago and recently at Ryan's
Pier in Aroma park. Not only has the music progressed but it
takes that long to prefect a style and sound. What a great
venue a friendly affordable club with great food. I will
come back to see him many times in the future. Great
stuff...

Heard you guys on the Loop a couple days ago. They played
your song titled "Life"
I know this section is supposed to be for cd reviews,
but I thought mentioning that the Loop loved you guys was
deserving. Erin Carmen
could not stop talking about how great the guitar work was
in that song. She loved it! Hope to see you guys at one of
your future shows. Probably at Memories bar, since I live in
Chicago!
People better start taking notice of the Lost Boyzz.
Fasten your seatbelts , cause the ride that you are going to
take is gonna blow your mind!

Ok, I admit I liked Tafoya's music
even before I actually heard it,
which doesn't sound quite right,
though consider that it's true.
Perhaps a premonition of sorts,
simply intuition, or just a strange
familiar mood suddenly. But I knew
ahead of time that I was going to
like it no matter what & even with
that high expectation of it's bound
to be good, the music reality
exceeded my imagination.
So I'm a fan & bound to be biased,
but of course. I'm also a friend so
you know that bias is just the base
camp of bias. But in truth I'm only
a fan of people I've actually met personally
and actually discussed in depth the
idea of the Muse, with those rare
individuals whose talents include a
musical phraseology in both thought
& deed.
Tafoya's got that rock spontaneity,
both in his endless lyrical rap from
his unique perspective & also his
exploration of musical riffs to the
deeps of what Boris Karloff called,
'the inner sanctum' sort of the rock
star jazz monster scenario.
Throw Tafoya in with the Lost Boyzz
& bamm, totally tight, note for
wicked note, beat fo' daddy-o, jam
to the max. Indubitably impressive.
If you know what I mean.
The Lost Boyzz seem poised to follow
Tafoya over the precipice & leap
into the great abyss. Whether live
or on record, there's a solid
palpable edge.
Their recording of Life captures it
on disk. Listen, you know you can
dig a song, not even know what it is
& the tune bops along in your head
as you walk along half dead, but
that ain't what I'm talking about.
When you seek that aural deluge of
awe inspired riffs & rhythms that
meticulously interlace
each song, you’ll discover a 4th
dimensional landscape, a lush
musical landscape.
Such intrigue lurks just below the
surface.
Plus, I like the website.

Spread your Love Around kicks ass
;-)
Love how tight the band is and your
guitar work is great - catchy,
catchy vocals too.
My fave of yours so far....
Andrea - Sonic Deli Records

Sturgis is playing again as I write. A real good
track !
I've listened to LIFE again, but did not feel
like stopping after each track to write down my
feelings, so here I go in a global way...
I haven't spotted a weak point in what I've
heard. The band is obviously well knit together.
The guitar is not all over the place. The
solos always come at the right time and have a
direction. You can't part the guitar from the
rhythm section. They play as a whole, as one.
There are different moods in the record,
sometimes even in the same song, but the whole
has a overall unity, a sound. I have heard some
reminders of The Doors at one point, some Led
Zeppelin at another, and some Mick Ralphs too.
There's even a rhythm reminiscing of Chicago's 25
or 6 to 4 at the end of Over Now. These are just
parts of the global sound of the band, a musical
culture from the last 40 years which layer after
layer make up a music of today.
One very important thing for me is that every
song has its intro. Sometimes long and
intricate, sometimes shorter, but the intro is
there. Two of my all times favorites musicians
are Chuck Berry and John Fogerty. They both have
the knack to introduce a song. I often call
Fogerty Chuck Berry's only son.
You certainly won't make the Top Twenty with
that kind of record, but you can gather a strong
following of music lovers. I don't know what's
in the Top 20 now in the USA, but I know what is
in France, and that keeps me from listening to
the radio.
Boogie With Me in on again now. Fast pace, but
the solo is not manic. One note at a time is
enough, in Jeff Beck and Mick Ronson's "less is
more" philosophy.

now, to thank you for your
encouraging comments on Jim's songs.
We really appreciate them, thanks

Excellent musicianship and
production values. loved the
guitar lines on LIFE.
Experience always shows and you have
it. All the best with the new
album!

Good old school late 70's - early
80's hard rock sound. Vocals are
fairly "haunting" and that works for
you guys. Nice sound, would like to
hear the final product!
Check out my stuff, please.
Thanks for e-mailing me about my
music. I appreciate the kind
words. Your music rocks! Keep up
the good work. "Crystal Morning"
was my favorite...and to be honest,
I did not really like "Spread Your
Love Around"...just did not flow
like I thought it should...but what
do I know!! Just my opinion.

Well Mike is the closest thing to
family to me and has bounced his
thoughts off of me and to tell you
the truth I dont believe there was
anything I personally didnt care for
or thought it wasnt spectacular, and
in writting this I truly feel bias
because I have worked with Mike for
a number of years, although I
believe Mike truly trusts me and my
opinions cause I would not steer him
wrong or tell him things and not
have true feelings or convictions, I
respect Mike too much for that so I
wont go into all the songs in
general but I believe in, no I very
much admire all the songs on the CD
and I see ths rotation of the music
with an old school interest and feel
that trancends the boundries of age
and gender and has a neer ending
impact on most of all who hear and
appriciate it. When ever I get a
chance I make copies and send them
to friends across the country so
they can appriciate Mikes music, and
now I am happy to say that in the
Bloomington area of our state there
seems to be a great response to
Mikes music, and my friend down in
Clinton, his nine year old son
thinks Mike is just the tops and is
hopping to meet him soon as Mike is
his guitar hero and is inspiring him
to excel in his oun efforts to be a
jr. guitar master. the music on the
CD is very good to listen to and
interesting, and every on I had
listen to it liked it, The CD will
only have lofty places to go, this

Hi Mike,
I caught your show on March 4th and
picked up a copy of the new cd LIFE.
Great show very tight, big sound.
The
cd does a good job of capturing the
live vibe. The music speaks for
itself, not over the top, not to in
your face, but with an edge. The cd
LIFE stands on its own but seeing
you guys perform it live brings it
all together. High energy and great
musicianship makes LIFE a great
time.

The CD sounds AWESOME! From the
good old fashioned heart pounding,
rock and roll sound of the Boyzz to
the smoking blues on the Chicago
scene to the clean crisp fretwork
over a Latin beat. This CD has it
all, and then some. The band brings
an undeniable modern tone to a tried
and true sound, keeping the music on
the cutting edge. Great job guys!

Came down to see you guys play on
the 20th, at Ryan's Pier. My friend
bought your cd, and let me say
something about it.
This in my honest opinion is one of
the best albums in a very long time.
It reminds me of the music I grew up
on, that good ol fashioned Rock N
Roll, but its nice to know that this
is something new. The guitar playing
on this album reminds me of my
favorite guitar player, Joe Perry
from Aerosmith.
Mike Tafoya sure is one of the best
guitar players I have ever heard. I
cannot wait till I see you guys
again, you guys ROCK! I hope you
guys really play down this way more
often cause myself and my friends
will be the first in line, every
single time!
